  • Raufarholshellir - We visit the lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir located only 30 minutes from Reykjavík. We will witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption while we walk in the path of a lava that flowed thousands of years ago. The lava tunnel is one of the biggest in Iceland and gets up to 30 metres wide and 10 metres high. The lava tube ceiling has caved in near the entrance, which creates beautiful columns of light. Cave Tour Excellent - The tunnel was really a cave. Walking on the wet stones was a little awkward, but my husband and I could do it. We wore helmets and had lights. Most of the cave tour was on grates and stairs over areas not to be traveled on and were informative. The guide knew a lot about the cave and the rock formations. The only thing the guide did not know was the name of the Iceland God of volcanoes. When asked, she said, "They have a volcano God." I answered yes, but I did not know how to pronounce the name. She replied she was from Canada. The volcano guide in Iceland is Surtr.

Superb trip with a fantastic guide - Alex made this trip a true adventure - unforgettable experience, I must say! The best parts: the ice formations and the formidable darkness and silence in the tunnel.

Short and entertaining - If you are looking for a short and entertaining tour not too far from Reykjavik, the Lava tunnel tour is a good choice. You go about 400 meters in, 30 meters deep. The guide was very fun. We booked it with transfer from the BIS terminal which went smoothly.

Not picked up - I was not picked up from the hotel. The contact phone number was not operational. Ruined my day. No much you can do in Reikjavik if your tour is canceled or not picked up. Sadly, a very frequent experience . Tour operators in Reykjavik are not reliable
