Looking for an adventure in Santo Domingo? How about a hiking and rappelling trip filled with excitement and thrill.
The difficulty level is HIGH, so a good physical condition is paramount. Both rappelling and swimming are compulsory, but you don’t need prior experience or swimming expertise.
We convene at 6 am, then embark on a 2 hours’ drive to the village, where we indulge in a local Dominican breakfast and interact with rappelling specialists.
Next, we do some stretches and start our uphill and subsequently downhill journey towards the creek. As we ascend the stream, we encounter La Culebra waterfall, engage in a bit of rappelling as a rehearsal, and then proceed downstream to the Tabernacle Thundering Waterfall (yes, check out my other experience). This is where you get the opportunity to either opt for guided rappelling or engage in a free-fall down this 25-meter waterfall, a highlight of our adventure. We then continue downstream, encountering swimming holes, thrilling jumps, and slides to the final point.
Post adventure, we change outfits (keep in mind that there’s no changing room. We don’t wet ourselves to the car).
And finally, we head back for a hearty lunch and return to Santo Domingo with a sense of accomplishment by 5 pm.
