Highlights

Beginning your tour from you Reykjavík it takes approximately 45 minutes to journey on out to Silfra. Your certified guide will be going through the procedures of your tour upon arriving at Silfra. After, you will put on your gear and head to the flooded glacial Fissure, Silfra, created as the continental plates drift apart at a rate of about 2 cm per year.

There is never normally fish in the fissure, sometimes they swim in from the lake Thingvallavatn. The real reason people do this tour is for the unreal visibility, which is over 100 metres daily. You have to see it to believe it, photos do not do it justice! You’re in the water for around 30-40 minutes. You’ll finish the tour by warming up with some hot chocolate.

We do have the option to pre-book a wetsuit on another listing. Booking a wetsuit is recommended for people who want to have the chance to dive down or who are scuba divers without the required certifications for the scuba dive. For the wetsuit it is recommended that you are a confident swimmer, if you are not then the drysuit is best for you. To cater to everyone’s desires we are the only company that has wetsuits and drysuits allowing them to be in the same group.

Additional Information

Experiencing snorkeling within a chasm created by the separation of two tectonic plates is no ordinary experience! Known as Silfra, this extensive ‘gap’ runs parallel to the North American and a diminutive plate called Hreppar, which detached from the Eurasian plate.

Silfra is globally famous for its extraordinarily clear and potable water, offering over 100 metres of visibility daily. This unparalleled tour in Iceland is a rare adventure not possible anywhere else on earth.

Our company takes pride in being the sole provider of both wetsuit and drysuit options, enabling individuals within your party to choose different alternatives yet still share the underwater experience together.

Included in our service are photographs, typically taking between 40-100 snaps depending on the tour’s size. You’ll have the convenience of downloading these memories a few days following the tour.

We value intimacy and personally engaging experiences, hence our insistence on maintaining small groups, with just 6 people per guide. If your group consists of 7 or more, you’ll be given time together while gearing up, but once in the water, some of you will have to split up.

Thank you Nico!!!!!!!!! - Hands down one of the best experiences of my life!! Nico was such an incredible tour guide and he made the whole experience so much fun and was so easy going but still extremely knowledgable. I felt very safe and in good hands the entire time. Seeing the fissure underwater was so breathtaking and I will continue to say this was my favourite experience out of all of Iceland. Nico also took great pictures as well!!

incredible Silfra - The tour started with very punctual Halifax cruise port pick-up. The driver/guide was very informative and knowledgeable. Then at Silfra, Klaudyna - the snorkeling/diving instructor provided us, the group of participants with an incredible, once in a life time experience to snorkel in crystal clear water between American and Euro-Asian tectonic plates. I would recommend Klaudyna and Adventure Vikings in a heart beat!

The guide makes the trip - This was quite the experience. The water was clear and underwater was beautiful. We went in summer and I'll just say I can't imagine doing it in a wet suit. It was so cold and windy. Luckily our guide Dory was so friendly it made it easy to focus on something more than the chill. Plus she made sure we remembered to get pics. Weather aside, because let's remember you're in Iceland, it was really great and the crew is good at what they do.

Silfra indescribable experience - Indescribable!! Super great experience and our guide Luis did it perfectly. We always felt safe and he was in a great mood. We would book it again and again through this provider. We had dry extractors and were neither wet nor frozen afterwards. We got great photos and the hot chocolate at the end was good. Perfect all round.

Beautiful Silfra - Fabulous experience with our Niko Guide, clear explanations and smooth preparation, all in a good small group atmosphere. Thank you! We were afraid of being frozen but with the waterproof suit we really only got cold hands, and we were very dry coming out of the water. Frankly do not hesitate, we quickly forget the discomfort once our eyes are fixed on the depths of Silfra!

Amazing Silfra Snorkeling Experience - We had an amazing experience snorkeling Silfra! Our guide, Gretar, explained the geology of the area and took special care to make sure that we were warm, safe and enjoyed our swim in the rift. He took wonderful pictures with his Go Pro. Looking back at the pictures brings a smile to our faces. We highly recommend this experience!
