Wonderful Aesthetic Experience - I had a wonderful experience learning how to make Nerikiri with Hana. Hana’s home was lovely and it was special to see the inside of a locals home. We also learned how to make Matcha, which was a wonderful experience as well. Overall the class was aesthetically pleasing, fun and very tasty, of course! Thank you Hana!

Amazing time in our first experience in Japan. - This was our first visit to Japan, we picked this activity to get an insiders perspective and start with something calm. It was a perfect choice. We loved it, we loved the host and it was so tasty and cute. We would like to say thank you one more for inviting us in your home.

Must do this when in Tokyo! - My four year old daughter and I loved this experience! We were able to choose nerikiri designs to make, such as cherry blossoms and Sanrio characters, from a large variety of selections. Hana, our teacher, made the process of making nerikiri very easy for us to follow even for those without experience and for young children who can focus on a task for at least an hour. After the activity, you can take a short walk to Harajuku for shopping, food, or transportation access.

A wonderful experience!! - I loved this class! The instructor, Hana, is excellent, and her home is beautiful! I have to admit that I was probably her worst student: clumsy, unimaginative, totally not artistic, and unskilled. Hana patiently explained and demonstrated each step along the way, corrected my errors, and gave me time to absorb my new knowledge. After making the first three sweets with input from Hana, I made the last one on my own. I definitely recommend this class. I fact, I wish I could've brought my grandchildren with me - I know they would've loved it, and their creations would've been much better than my own!

Super fun, unique and memorable experience! - Making mochi together as a family and hearing Hana's recommendations for things to do was so fun and memorable. The setting of doing it in her house in Japan was great. It was an unforgettable and unique experience. We had a great time and would highly recommend it to others.

Rushed, uninformative, uncomfortable - This was not really in heart of Tokyo- it was a 25 min taxi ride from Ginza. The apartment was lovely but the class was very rushed- to the point of unenjoyable. We had a private class and were told multiple times that the class would end in 1hr40 min. She had samples of pastries and told us to choose which we would like to make- and 4 of the ones we chose she said we didnt have time to make. Even the tea ceremony was rushed, as she walked us through the steps. Either make the class longer of eliminate the tea ceremony because the class as is was rushed and not enjoyable. It was also uncomfortable with tgr everyday utensils- my son got some red dye on the cutting board and she immediately took it and went into kitchen to wash it. She also admonished my adult son for positioning the matcha scoop and container too close to the “precious” bowl. Would recommend using inexpensive bowls to be sure that guests do jot feel so uncomfortable, especially when trying to learn the basics of the tea ceremony. Even at the end she told us multiple times to “go downstairs” when my one son was still drinking the matcha tea. It is unfortunate that every aspect of the class was so rushed, because she has a lot of knowledge to share and teach. I would have rated this as TERRIBLE but appreciate her knowledge and the little quick tips that we picked up. Would have appreciated learning some of the history behind the sweets and the tea ceremony as she is a Japanese history university professor who also studied in Kyoto. She has so much knowledge which we would have loved learning. I would not recommend this to anyone unless she makes major changes to the approach to the class. Either eliminate the tea ceremony or lengthen the class by an hour. She couldnt even be bothered with allowing me to take photos (no time) and only took a photo of us (seemingly begrudgingly) at my request. My family and i have taken over 100 classes throughout our travels and agree that this was the worst.
