As a professional surfer, my life is usually dictated by the rhythm of the waves, but every now and then, I find myself drawn to the allure of the land. This time, it was the call of the wild in Carara National Park that piqued my interest. Known for its rich biodiversity, the park promised a different kind of thrill, one that involved binoculars instead of surfboards. My wife and I decided to take a break from our usual oceanic escapades and dive into the world of bird watching.

The morning sun was just beginning to warm the earth as we arrived at the park. Our guide, Jeison, greeted us with a warm smile and an infectious enthusiasm for the avian world.
