Highlights
  • Trengereid - We were now on the road for just over half an hour, time for a quick stop. We stop at the lookout at Trengereid from where we have a fantastic view of The East Fjord and the island of Osterøy. There is also a small bakery and public toilets here. If the weather permits, we invite you to have a coffee here and enjoy the view. We will stay here for about 20 minutes and then leave again at about 11:00 am and make our way to Steinsdalfossen Waterfall. The journey takes about 35 minutes.

  • Steinsdalsfossen - The Steinsdalsfossen waterfall near Norheimsund is spectacular. You can walk along the back of it without getting wet.
Steinsdalsfossen was formed when the river sought a new course in 1699 and has a height of approx. 50 m. A path leads behind the waterfall so that you can get between the rock face and the water. It is one of the most visited waterfalls in Norway. We will stay here for about 25 minutes

  • Oystese - We reach Øystese at around 12:15 pm. Here we will have our lunch break at Spildegarden Sider Farm. Lunch is included in the price.
The lounge here is very cozy and has a fireplace. From the farm you have a spectacular view of the Hardangerfjord.
We stay here for just over an hour and then set off again at around 13:30.

  • Lofthus - Our journey then takes us further along the Hardangerfjord, where you can marvel at the picturesque landscapes. We will then arrive at Hotel Ullensvang at around 15:15. Coffee or tea and delicious cookies will be waiting for us. (included)We will stay here for about half an hour. Hotel Ullensvang was founded by 14-year-old Hans Utne. He was full of enthusiasm and bought a small plot of land on the banks of the fjord early on, where he built a boathouse that could be used as overnight accommodation for fjord travelers. The hotel was constantly expanded and is now one of the most beautiful hotels in Norway, picturesquely situated directly on the Hardanger Fjord. Norway’s most famous composer Edvard Grieg spent many summers at Hardanger Fjord, both to relax and to compose. He found peace in a small hut that now stands in the garden of the hotel. We will leave this wonderful place again at around 15:45 and continue on our way towards Jondal, where we want to catch the ferry at 17:20.

  • Odda - We head towards the outermost tip of the Hardanger Fjord, where the small town of Odda is located. Around 1900, the small town of Odda was the most popular destination for wealthy summer visitors, at times even the most visited place. In 1906, the Tyssedal hydroelectric power station was built to supply electricity to the carbide and cyanamide factories that were being built in the center of Odda. Odda thus became an industrial town and lost its appeal as a tourist destination for the time being. In recent years, however, this trend has been reversed and Odda is enjoying an increasing number of tourists every year. We only drive through this small town.

  • Jondal - The ferry from Jondal to Tørvikbygd departs at 17:20 on the dot. We cross the main arm of the Hardangerfjord here, the crossing takes about 20 minutes. There are toilets and a self-service café on the ferry.

  • Tørvikbygd - At 17:40 the ferry docks in Tørvikbygd. From here, we make our way directly to Bergen. The journey will take about one and a half hours, so you will be back at your hotel at about 19:15. You’ve had a wonderful day ;-)
