Highlights
  • Tulum Archaeological Site - Tulum is one of the most important archaeological sites in the state of Quintana Roo, since it is the only site that is facing the Caribbean Sea. In ancient times it had the name of Zamá which means sunrise, the current name, Tulum, means “enclosure or wall”. For the ancient Mayans, this city was the main center of maritime and land trade in the area. Currently captivates everyone who visits, this Mayan city was built on a cliff from where the turquoise tones of the Caribbean Sea can be appreciated in all its splendor.

It has more than 60 restored temples, El Castillo is the main building of the archaeological zone of Tulum, being the most photographed site in the Riviera Maya due to its peculiar location on the cliff. The Mayan city is surrounded by walls, each one symbolizes one of the elements: earth, water, air and fire. The reef that is in front of the coast, forms the fourth wall and was practically inaccessible.

Great adventure - Using this skip the line saved having to pay when arrived to see ruins. I had to stop to the entrance to get a wristband before entering and you have to pay park fee which is $3 usd. I had an electronic ticket that didn't scan so i went back to the front and got another one to be able to get in. The weather was hot, but I brought water. It's a lot of walking so make sure if you're not a sun or walking person don't try this. However, it was a good exercise for the day. There is a walk to get to the ruins about 5-10 minutes. Overall, seeing the ruins and learning about the history was a great experience and I recommend visiting.

Saved 1.5h - this ticket saved us 1.5h waiting in line. If you're going at a busy time, worth buying this ticket. The ticket counter line was 1.5h when we got there, we were able to walk right pass the line to the turnstiles few meters down the path, scan the QR code on the printed ticket and enter. You don't need to wait in line with this ticket, but you DO NEED A PRINTED TIKET. The turnstiles does not read the QR code on the phone.

Not necessary - You don't need to print tickets ahead of time anymore, you can just scan this barcode or pay at the gate. There was very little line and I went midday during spring break. Its a few bucks cheaper at the gate so I didn't need to get this.

Maybe during peak times? - Might be worth it during peak times, but we were there in the low season and arrived around 10 am. Not much of a line at that time. Nice to be able to pay online of you don't carry cash.

Go if you are OK with crowds - Very commercialised. We paid for our tickets up front then had to pay extra for parking and to enter the national park! It was very busy with touts everywhere trying to get you to buy stuff. The walk from the parking area is not as long as they say ( don’t take the bus - even more money) It’s very hot with not much shade so good shoes and a hat recommend. The paths are steep in places with lots of steps be warned.

Paid for tickets. Never received them - I have paid 30 USD and the tickets have never been sent to me despite several calls and messages. This is a clear fraud.

I paid for unvaild tickets - Our tickest wasn't valid, and they charged us 2 fees. One for parking, then another for getting into the area where the pyramids were, then we showed them what I had printed out they said it wasn't valid and said we needed to pay for tickets. We contacted the number we received from trip advisor, but since he didn't contact us in advance to send us the tickets we had the wrong info once at Tulum and were unable to see the ruins.

Voucher not redeemable - The staff said that this voucher was not real and that we had to pay an additional $90 to participate. This voucher was not redeemable and a waste of money.

Scam - Don’t book this tour. It’s a scam walking all around looking for the person/ redemption center. No one wants to help. It’s better to just buy the tickets on sight and tour yourselves.
