Culloden Battlefield - The next destination is the profoundly moving site of the final Jacobite Rising—the last and most intense pitched battle fought on British soil between Scotland and England. Visitors can explore the interactive visitor center, view intriguing artifacts from both sides of the conflict, and experience the battle in an immersive surround cinema. On 16 April 1746, the final Jacobite Rising reached a violent climax. Jacobite supporters, aiming to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British thrones, assembled to confront the Duke of Cumberland’s government forces. It was the last pitched battle on British soil, and in less than an hour, approximately 1,500 men were killed—over 1,000 of them Jacobites.
