- Chiesa di San Giorgio dei Greci - The Campanile di San Giorgio dei Greci, known as the ‘leaning clocktower’, was designed by Simone Sorella and completed in 1592. It began tilting early in its construction. Both the bell tower and the adjoining church were built by and for Venice’s Greek community, mainly sailors and merchants. You can also visit the Sanctuary of St. Lucy.
- Strada Nova - The widest street in Venice, created in the 19th century to provide quick pedestrian access between Rialto and the railway station. This route, consisting of wide streets connected by bridges, required the demolition of buildings that would have otherwise created a long, winding path through narrow streets.
- Ponte di Rialto - The Rialto Bridge is the oldest of the four bridges crossing the Grand Canal in Venice. It is renowned for its architecture and history, having been the center of Venice’s economy for years.
- St. Mark’s Basilica - St. Mark’s Square is Venice’s main public square and one of the world’s most captivating squares, famously described by Napoleon Bonaparte as “the most beautiful hall in Europe.” The Patriarchal Cathedral Basilica of Saint Mark, commonly known as St. Mark’s Basilica, is the cathedral church of the Patriarchate of Venice. Its domes, vaults, and upper walls are adorned with gold-ground mosaics depicting saints, prophets, and biblical scenes.
- Ponte dei Sospiri - Known locally as the Bridge of Sighs, this iconic Venice landmark was built in the 1600s and connects the Doge’s Palace to the historic prison across the canal. It earned its name because, during the Serenissima, prisoners would sigh as they crossed it, knowing it might be their last view of the outside world.
- Chiesa di San Zaccaria - The Church of San Zaccaria is a 15th-century former monastic church in central Venice, located in Campo San Zaccaria. Built between 1458 and 1515, its facade is a harmonious blend of late-Gothic and Renaissance styles.
- Ponte dell’Accademia - One of only four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, the Ponte dell’Accademia crosses near the southern end of the canal and is named after the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia.
- Squero di San Trovaso - The squero of San Trovaso is one of Venice’s oldest and most renowned squeros, traditional shipyards where small boats like gondolas are repaired. Get a glimpse of how a gondola is made or repaired!
- Campo San Pantalon - Visit the beautiful Campo San Pantalon to see the famous painting by Banksy, often called “the shipwrecked/migrant child.”
- Campo Santa Margherita - Located in the Dorsoduro sestiere of Venice, Campo Santa Margherita is a city square near university buildings and a popular gathering spot for students at the end of the day.
- Piazzale Roma - Piazzale Roma is a square at the city’s entrance, at the end of the Ponte della Libertà. Along with nearby Tronchetto island, it is one of the only places in Venice’s insular urban core accessible to motor vehicles like cars and buses. After the tour, take the train back to Rome (4 hours).
