Embracing the Rain: A Weekend in Bentota
Bentota, a coastal gem in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and wildlife adventures, even on a rainy weekend. As the skies turn grey and the rain begins to fall, the lush landscapes come alive, providing a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable experience. This weekend, embrace the rain and explore the wonders of Bentota, where nature and wildlife safaris await.
Start your adventure with a visit to the Udawalawe National Park, a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Known for its large herds of elephants, the park offers a thrilling safari experience that will leave you in awe. The Udawalawe Safari Day Trip is a must-do, with its early morning start times ensuring you catch the animals before the heat of the day. As you embark on a jeep safari, you’ll witness elephants, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species in their natural habitat. The park’s diverse ecosystem, comprising grasslands and bush forests, provides a stunning backdrop for your wildlife adventure.
Reviewed at 2024-12-08: Great organisation - Bentota Travel has a deservedly good reputation. The organisation of the trip was exceptional, with great communication from Sam. We arrived just after 6am due to some great driving from Irfan in the very comfortable car. This meant that we had almost four hours in the park & most of that on safari. The jeep was driven by the most amazing young man, whose expertise in spotting wildlife was amazing. Birds, lizards, crocodiles, a mongoose could not escape his eye, even when well camouflaged. Just astonishing.
Discovering Bentota’s Hidden Gems
Beyond the wildlife safaris, Bentota offers a plethora of activities that allow you to immerse yourself in the local culture and natural beauty. Take a leisurely stroll along the Bentota Beach, where the sound of the waves crashing against the shore creates a soothing ambiance. The beach is perfect for a morning walk, especially when the rain has subsided, and the skies are partly cloudy.
For those seeking a more adventurous experience, consider exploring the Bentota River. The river is a hub for water sports, offering activities such as jet skiing, windsurfing, and banana boat rides. As you navigate the river, you’ll be surrounded by lush mangroves and vibrant wildlife, making it a truly immersive experience.
If you’re interested in learning about the local culture, visit the Brief Garden, a beautifully landscaped garden designed by renowned Sri Lankan artist Bevis Bawa. The garden is a testament to the island’s rich artistic heritage and offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city.
A Sustainable Adventure
