Substancial historical facts and exchange of ideas and beliefs - I booked my walking tour on the 30th and we went to Bảo tàng Lịch sử Quốc gia and Hoa Lo Prison. What happened in the tour was an exchange of culture, beliefs and ideas. It was more than a historical tour. My admiration for Vietnam increased. The preservation of the relics were magnificent and understanding what took place in the years of struggle to gain independence. Tommy, my guide was a fantastic story teller and a gracious host who answered all my queries. The discussion ended with just 2 sites visited and I felt that it was lacking. I wanted to learn more. I am lucky that my guide was free on the next day and we started early to see the temple of literature and the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. This tour was like passing through the gates of virtue and talent. While wishing at the altar of Confucius, I asked a favor and was granted at the citadel. I am Asian, I saw the similarity and connection which I always seek as an avid historian and antiquarian to my Asian neighbors. I hope someday I can visit again. The food was another story. The bun cha was an extraordinary soup with grilled meat. The rice pancake was umami! I left with my brain full and my stomach fed. I must say, I wish I can live in Vietnam. Mabuhay!
