The Call of the Volcano

As a professional surfer, my life is a constant dance with the ocean, but every now and then, the land calls to me. This time, it was the Telica Volcano in León, Nicaragua. Known for its fiery temperament and breathtaking views, Telica promised an adventure that I couldn’t resist. My wife and I, both seasoned adventurers, decided to take a break from the waves and answer the call of the volcano.

The journey began with a short drive from León, a city that has become a second home to us during our travels. The landscape shifted from urban to lush greenery, with the volcano looming in the distance. Our guide, a local with a wealth of knowledge about the area, made the drive feel like a storytelling session, weaving tales of the volcano’s history and the vibrant ecosystem that surrounds it.

The Ascent

The hike to the summit of Telica was a 45-minute trek through a landscape that seemed to change with every step.
