The Ascent: A Journey to the Top

As a seasoned surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the thrill of riding waves, but this time, I found myself swapping the ocean for the rugged terrain of Cerro Negro in León, Nicaragua. The adventure began with a 50-minute drive through sandy roads, past rural communities and lush crop fields, leading us to the base of the youngest volcano in Nicaragua. The anticipation was palpable as we prepared for the hike to the summit, standing at 726 meters above sea level.

The trail was a mix of rocky paths and gentle slopes, making it accessible for adventurers of all ages. I was reminded of the review I read, where a 64-year-old and a 7-year-old both conquered the climb. With my board and safety gear in tow, I felt a sense of camaraderie with fellow thrill-seekers, all eager to experience the unique rush of volcano boarding. The hike was invigorating, and the views of the volcanic landscape were nothing short of breathtaking.
