A Journey Through the Pines

Our adventure began in the charming village of Vilaflor, nestled among the Canarian pine forests. As a family travel writer, I am always on the lookout for experiences that are both educational and enjoyable for my children. The Teide National Park Tour promised just that, and it did not disappoint.

We were picked up by a comfortable, air-conditioned coach right outside our hotel. The kids were thrilled to be on a “big bus,” and I was relieved to see that the tour was well-organized and family-friendly. Our guide, Alfonso, was a treasure trove of information, sharing fascinating tidbits about the flora and fauna as we made our way through the Corona Forestal Nature Reserve.

Our first stop was a quaint little café where we enjoyed a refreshing break. The children were delighted to stretch their legs and explore the surroundings. It was a perfect opportunity to teach them about the unique ecosystem of the Canary Islands, and they were eager to learn.

Exploring the Martian Landscape

As we continued our ascent, the landscape transformed into something out of a science fiction novel. The lava flows and volcanic cones of Las Cañadas del Teide were unlike anything we had ever seen. Alfonso’s engaging storytelling brought the history and geology of the area to life, capturing the imagination of both young and old.

We made several stops along the way, each offering breathtaking views and photo opportunities. The kids were particularly fascinated by the Roques de García, with their unusual rock formations. It was a great chance to discuss the forces of nature and how they shape our world.

The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly the Teide Cable Car. Although we didn’t take the ride this time, the view from the base was spectacular. The children were in awe of the towering peak, and I made a mental note to return for the cable car experience when they were a bit older.

A Memorable Descent

As we began our descent, the sun cast a golden glow over the landscape, creating a magical atmosphere. We stopped at a local shop where the children enjoyed browsing through Tenerife souvenirs. It was a relaxed and unhurried experience, allowing us to soak in the local culture.

The journey back to our hotel was filled with laughter and shared stories. Alfonso and our driver made the day truly special, and I was grateful for their expertise and warmth. It was disheartening to see some guests leave without expressing their appreciation, but we made sure to thank them for their efforts.
