A Journey to the Stars

When I heard about the Mount Teide Night Tour in Vilaflor, I knew it was something I had to experience. Our journey began with a hotel pick-up at 5:15 PM. The taxi, which had already picked up another couple, made a few more stops before dropping us off at a hotel to wait for the coach. Though the wait was a bit longer than expected, it was understandable given the evening traffic. Once on the coach, we were treated to a fascinating history lesson about the island and Mount Teide, setting the stage for the evening ahead.

A Taste of Canarian Cuisine

Our first stop was Bodega Reveron, a charming restaurant where we were greeted by a friendly English host. The three-course meal was a delightful introduction to traditional Canarian fare. We started with a warm soup, followed by succulent pork, and finished with a delectable ice cream cake. The table was adorned with bread, goat cheese, and croutes, and for those who enjoy wine, there was plenty to go around.

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with the host ensuring that groups and couples were seated together. It was a lovely opportunity to connect with fellow travelers and share stories. After dinner, we had a brief moment to explore the restaurant’s offerings, including purchasing bottles of their locally made wine.

Stargazing Above the Clouds

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the stargazing experience. After a scenic 40-minute drive, we arrived at our final destination, high above the clouds. The sky was a breathtaking canvas of stars, and the astronomer on hand was both informative and engaging. He pointed out key stars and constellations, making the experience both educational and awe-inspiring.

Though the temperature was a chilly 6°C, we were well-prepared with warm clothing, as advised. Standing under the vast night sky, surrounded by the beauty of nature, was a moment of pure magic. It was a reminder of the wonders of the universe and a perfect way to end the evening.

As we made our way back to South Tenerife, I couldn’t help but reflect on the night’s adventures.
