A Journey Through Nature’s Bounty
The Murray to Mountain Trail Bike Tour is a testament to the beauty of sustainable travel. As I embarked on this two-night adventure from Beechworth, I was immediately struck by the seamless integration of nature and human endeavor. The trail, a paved off-road cycling path, winds through the heart of North East Victoria, offering a unique opportunity to explore the region’s wineries, produce farms, and historic towns.
Upon arrival in Beechworth, I was warmly welcomed by Sheila and John at Foxgloves B and B. Their hospitality was unmatched, and their stories of immigration and life in Australia added a personal touch to the experience. The room was a haven of comfort, and the breakfast, made from locally-sourced produce, was a delightful start to the day.
The first day of cycling was a revelation. The trail led me through stunning Alpine views, and the clean country air was invigorating. Despite a minor setback when one of my fellow travelers fell ill, the support team, led by Bernie, was exceptional. His dedication to ensuring our comfort and safety was commendable, and his assistance allowed me to continue the ride in solitude, a rare and cherished experience.
Embracing the Local Flavors
The journey from Beechworth to Myrtleford was a celebration of local flavors. Our lunch at Gapsted Winery was a highlight, with a gourmet platter and exclusive wine tastings that showcased the region’s culinary excellence. The attentive service and the abundance of food made for a memorable dining experience.
In Myrtleford, I stayed at Saje’s House and Pod, a charming self-contained unit that offered a peaceful retreat. The thoughtful touches, such as complimentary wine and chocolates, added to the sense of welcome. Dinner at Bastoni’s Pizzeria, though delayed, was a satisfying end to the day, and the bustling atmosphere was a testament to the town’s vibrant community.
The following morning, breakfast at the Alpine Gate cafe was a pleasant start, but it was the visit to Ringer Reef Winery that truly stood out. The lone staff member’s ability to manage wine tastings and prepare a delicious lunch platter was impressive, and the Moscato was so delightful that I couldn’t resist ordering more for delivery.
A Sustainable Adventure
The final leg of the journey to Bright was a fitting conclusion to this eco-conscious adventure. The ride along the Murray to Mountains rail trail was a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural landscapes. The trail’s thoughtful design allows travelers to immerse themselves in the environment without causing harm, a principle that resonates deeply with my commitment to sustainable tourism.
Upon reaching Bright, a visit to the local brewery provided a refreshing end to the ride. Bernie’s return to transport us back to Beechworth was filled with engaging conversation and insights into the region’s history and culture.
This tour is a shining example of how travel can be both enjoyable and environmentally responsible. The meticulous organization by Damian and his team ensured that every aspect of the journey was considered, allowing me to focus on the beauty of the landscape and the joy of cycling. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone seeking a meaningful connection with nature and a deeper understanding of the region’s heritage.
